In conversation with Eva Losada

What’s your strongest scent memory?
The smell of the sea. I used to go on holidays to my family's house in the South of Spain since I was very young. I am from a city in the centre of Spain, so I used to have that smell only few times a year. It’s still one of my favourites.
Other than the smell of nature, I’m very fond of incense. My city is famous for its Easter celebrations (I am not Catholic so I see it more like a city tradition) and the whole city smells very strongly of incense during that week. So many tourists go every year and the smell of it reminds me home.
Did you always want to become a photographer? If not, what made you start with photography?
I studied food science and technology and engineering even though I always loved fashion. I always took photos since I was very little but I was more interested in design and styling. My dad was an amateur photographer so I was surrounded by cameras since I was born.
In London I studied fashion and went to Fashion Week to take in the atmosphere. Streetstyle photographers took photos of me which ended up in some big magazines.
I brought my camera the day after to take some streetstyle photos for fun and a magazine from London reached out to me on Instagram asking to publish my photos. That is how it started. A season after I found myself working for Highsnobiety, who believed in me from the very beginning. Then I quit my job as a food technologist to work in fashion full-time.

What was your wildest/funniest experience at work?
Being in a different country every week is one of the best things about my work. Unfortunately, right now it’s not impossible due to COVID and I really miss it. I value it a lot more than before.
Is there something you think everyone should do at least once in their life?
Skydiving. The mix of adrenaline and freedom is incredible.
Who inspires you at the moment?
I get inspiration from many sources. Cinema has always been big for me, as well as the amazing people I have the opportunity to work with.
But you can find inspiration everywhere. You just need to be present and open and this is when the magic happens. Meditation is something I recommend to everybody; great ideas come at the subconscious level.
